National action plan for prevention of trafficking in persons in uganda (2019-2024)

The role of reception centres in supporting people out of exploitation

The previous five years’ National Action Plan (2013-2018) laid thefoundation for the national structures and systems to counter traffickingin persons in Uganda in an organized and systematic way. Learning from the lessons of theprevious action plan and considering the emerging issues at the national and international levels;this new National Action Plan has been developed with the aim of strengthening the gains realizedduring the past period and re-orienting the efforts towards establishment of optimum nationalcapacities and capabilities to handle the scourge of trafficking in persons more professionally andefficiently. It has been developed in line with the aspirations of the Sustainable development goals,the Global compact on Migration, the Palermo Protocol of 2000, Ouagadougou Action to CombatTrafficking in Human Beings, of 2006, and the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons (PTIP) Act2009.
